Therapeutic
Listening
Often times, the most healing aspect of music therapy can
be receptive listening to music. This is especially true
in situations where the client or patient is simply too
weak or debilitated to to create the music but is able to
find great satisfaction in the hearing of it. This type
of intervention is most commonly used in hospice, pre-or
post-procedure or to communicate with those unable to speak.
It can be very gratifying, nostalgic and affirming to hear
songs and music of youth or soothing tones being played
especially for you. Listening to music can impact pulse,
heart rate, respiration, blood pressure and other physiological
processes.
