Sha’ari Garfinkel
is a nationally-board certified music therapist, sound
healer & clinical social worker and who plays gongs,
Native American flute, french horn and many other instruments.
Sha'ari has played french horn professionally and has
worked for major US orchestras in arts administration.
Her interests in healing music traditions from around
the world have taken her to Bali, Israel, Nicaragua,
Guatemala, Peru, Belize, Mexico & Canada in addition
to two traditional indigenous canoe journeys in Washington
State.
Sha'ari earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from Oberlin
College Conservatory in 1985 where she was a student
of internationally-recognized music therapist Deforia
Lane and french horn virtuoso Robert Fries. Later,
Sha'ari earned a Master of Social Work degree from
the University of Houston. In 1995, Sha'ari was awarded
the title of Fellow by the Association for Music & Imagery.
She has studied The Bonny Method with Linda Keiser
Mardis of Archedigm and Acutonics® with Donna Carey & Marjorie
De Muynk at the Kairos Institute in New Mexico. In
2002, Sha'ari was ordained as a minister in Washington
State.
Currently, Sha'ari is a member of the National Association
of Social Workers, the Association for Music & Imagery,
the Music Therapy Association of Washington and Sound
Healers of Washington. She has 20 years clinical experience
in medical, emergency, psychiatric, chemical dependency,
indigenous health, skilled nursing and hospice facilities.
She provides lectures, workshops and rituals as the
sole music therapist at Swedish Medical Center's Cancer
Institute and The Regional Hospital for Respiratory &Complex
Care. Sha'ari maintains a private practice at the Hummingbird
Therapy Studio in West Seattle where she offers monthly
Healing Gong Bath Meditation Groups and individual
music psychotherapy sessions.
